This is a sculpture piece my Ana Maria Pacheco which is currently in display at the Birmingham Art Gallery. Ana will use wood to carve the models and paint them with oil to give this sort of murky feel to her work with the dull colouring with dark highlights around important features. I think what makes her work so grim is the projects will have real human teeth embedded in the mouth making the faces and expressions almost like a surreal painting come to life. I's hard to describe the confrontation of her work but must audiences will experience a sudden angst or invasion of space at the presence.
